Parking is free and there are at least 3 disabled parking bays close to the entrance gates. There is level access to the courtyard café. The grounds are either lawn or gravel paths – some on a slope. Wheelchairs are available to use – 2 all terrain wheelchairs.
Toilets (basic) are available at the entra
nce and by the Mud Kitchen. Both have disabled access units.
We have worked with AccessAble so you can find out about our facilities before you visit.

Introduction
Castle Bromwich Historic Gardens and Parkland is committed to providing a welcoming and accessible environment for all visitors, regardless of ability.
- Arrival and Parking
There are a minimum of 3 dedicated accessible parking bays located immediately outside the main entrance. The route from the parking to the Courtyard is level, paved and gravel surfaces. - Gardens and Pathways
The historic Garden is partially accessible. Across the 8 acres there are a mixture of hard surfaces and grass pathways and lawns. The hard surface (hoggin) perimeter pathways are gently sloped, with one short slightly steeper length. Grass pathways cover the rest of the Gardens. Most on level ground with one steeper area (which can be avoided). Winter and muddy conditions are likely to impede access for many (we are slowly installing ground reinforcement). There are backed benches and seats across the site- spaced at appx 30 metres - Outer areas and the Parkland.
- The Mud Kitchen, Ponds. Play area and Outer Orchard are ‘nature exploration’ areas. Currently they are generally uneven and sometimes muddy. They are generally accessible for buggies and all terrain wheelchairs. We are working on installing further ground reinforcement.
- The 30 acres of Parkland is managed as a Wildlife and Nature Reserve. Most access is across grass, woodchipped paths and bare earth. There are marked nature trails accessible currently only to relatively ambulant individuals. An all terrain push wheelchair is available for use for visitors. We hope, in the future to increase accessibility to some trail whilst preserving the historic protected nature of the site.
- Facilities
Toilets are currently rather basic. Near the entrance (alongside the Courtyard) are separate male, female and disabled access units. Male and female units have low stepped entrances. A basic changing area is in female unit only (☹). Further toilet facilities can be found in the far corner of the walled garden – by the Mud kitchen/forest school area. Two compost toilet units, one with steps and one with a wheelchair accessible slope and internal facility.
5. Assistance Dogs.
- Assistance dogs are welcome in all areas. Dogs on short leads are welcome in general – some specific events are not (eg Falconry) – these are flagged in advance.
- Staff and volunteers.
- Our staff, activity leaders and volunteers are keen to provide appropriate welcomes for everyone. Basic training has been undertaken in many aspects, with some individuals having more knowledge and experience than others. Across the varied activities on site we hope to provide appropriate support and assistance where we can. Please let us know if we fall below expectations and where we can improve.
