Stars and Shadows…Christmas Lantern Festival in the Gardens

A magical ‘make and explore’ lead up  to Christmas for all the family in the Gardens.

As night falls, wander into the Gardens with your own Willow Star lantern find the Big Star constellations hidden in the trees, run from Jupiter to Mars and make your own planetary shadow play..

There’s hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows around the fire-pit too.

Making a lantern is not compulsory – but its more fun!

Free Community Lantern Making workshops

Help make our enchanted mushroom lantern village for Christmas in the Gardens.

We’re working with artist Sohpie Handy to make 100 little mushroom houses from willow and tissue paper.

Spend a couple of hours with your friends of family learning and making with Sophie.  Your creations will go into the Gardens to help make a magical, illuminated woodland walk ready for our weekends before Christmas. Be part of making it special for all our visitors – young and old, local and from further afield…Our mushroom village houses will be popping up all over the Garden … #wegrowtogether.

the woodland walk will be open for at least 4 special weekend days in December.. culminating in a Community Lantern Parade on the 16th December.

Mushroom makers’ who help on these making workshop days will get free refreshments on the day and, as a thank you, a token for free hot chocolate and marshmallows in our community Lantern Parade on 16th Dec.

It takes about 2-3 hours to make the lanterns, and its probably best for children over 7years old .

Pop in on the days .. or contact us here for more info, or if your group can come another time

A great family, club or class event. These workshops are free.

(entrance to the lantern events and walk weekend days is £3)
