Sorry – CANCELLED The Winter’s Tale

Saturday,August 3,2019 , 7:30 pm 9:00 pm

More music and darker tales in the Garden from Shakespeare

Willmore Players – wowed us last year, back again with a double bill of Shakespeare and Gilbert and Sullivan. This Saturday there is a double helping… a matinee (1pm) and and early evening performance (7.30pm)

Shakespeare’s A Winters Tale is comedy, tragedy and romance. Set in a fictional country of Bohemia it is a tale of love and jeolousy, children lost and found and statues….that might move.

This one hour adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale focuses on Leontes jealousy as a stark background for acts of domestic violence.

Set in the world of organised crime, Leontes dominates through fear and entitlement, his associates are unable to resist or challenge him as he asserts his authority with fatal consequences. The Winters Tale unfolds as a story of undeserved redemption where reunion and forgiveness leave a bad taste in our mouths.

Using Shakespeare’s words- and new music – we can explore our own culture of gendered violence and domestic oppression. Please be aware, this is Shakesepeare in the raw -with some depiction of  abuse and violence.

Some seating available. Feel free to bring your own, and a picnic. This is an outdoor production Please dress for the weather. Light refreshments available
