DESCRIPTION:Join Birmingham artist Jake Lever for a hands-on cyanotype workshop\, exploring this beautiful photographic printing process.\n\n\nBirmingham-based artist Jake Lever brings his expertise as a fine artist to Castle Bromwich Historic Gardens. Join him for a hands-on cyanotype workshop\, exploring this beautiful and historic photographic printing process\, sometimes known as ‘sun prints’ .\n  \nWe will be standing on the shoulders of famous Victorian botanists like Anna Atkins to record plant specimens from the Gardens\, exposing light sensitive paper to sunlight\, creating visually striking\, distinctively blue “sun prints”. There be opportunities to learn about the process (including information about materials and equipment)\, the chance to experiment and create unique prints which you can take away. \nEngage with a stunning art form\, set within 10 acres of Baroque gardens. This is ideal for anyone with an interest in both botany and art\, this is a workshop not to be missed. \nNo experience is needed and all materials are provided\, with a limit of 10 people per workshop and a guarantee of success in all weathers! \n2 separate sessions: at 10.30am and 2pm \nNB: Your £45 ticket includes complementary tea and coffee and entry all day to the Gardens (whichever session you book for). \n  \nWe will take lots of photographs so please let us know if you do not want to be in them.

DESCRIPTION:Join Birmingham artist Ildiko Nagy for a full day’s workshop on basket-weaving.\n\n\nBasket-Weaving\nHave you ever thought of making your own basket and learning about ancient willow weaving techniques? This summer you will be able to make and keep your very own willow basket at Castle Bromwich Historic Gardens.\nJoin local artist Ildiko Nagy and an intimate group of fellow learners as you are taught how to make a basket using time-honoured techniques. During the all day\, five-hour workshop will be guided through how to create a medium-small sized round basket following the stake and strand basketry technique. for a gentle and productive session … \nWe’ll be using brown willow and all tools will be provided. \nIdeal for anyone interested in losing themselves in a craft which would have been commonplace to our forebears. \nTickets £65 \nAll materials\, tools are provided. \nYour ticket also grants you unlimited tea and coffee provided in the workshop area AND 10% off food and drink from the cafe (voucher given at beginning of sesion). \nPlease arrive for 09:45 so that you can start in time for 10:00. \nYou’re welcome to also bring your own food\, if you wish.

DESCRIPTION:A Smashing start to Medieval Summer at the Gardens!\nJoin Birmingham Medieval Combat for a beginner’s class on Medieval Combat.\n£15 per adult (90 mins session) \nOther info: your ticket allows you to visit the Gardens all day\, from 10:30-16:30 so do take the opportunity to explore. \nThe class takes place as part of a special day of demonstration and shows at the Gardens. \nBirmingham Medieval Combat are offering the opportunity for 10 brave souls to get real ‘hands on’ experience of the techniques. \nThis hour and half beginners class will cover basic sword and shield work – see below for more details. \nOther info: your ticket allows you to visit the Gardens all day\, from 10:30-16:30 so do take the opportunity to explore. \nMORE DETAIL \nThere will only be 10 of you so you’ll get real hands-on delivery and expertise from these enthusiasts. \nIdeal photograph opportunity\, so do bring people to snap some good shots! Entry fees will apply to these. \nThey will ask each participant to sign a sports waiver\, and have reasonable clothing and footwear. There is a moderate degree of physical exertion as part of this session. They will cover the basics of stance\, sword and shield technique and counter attacking. This class will be tailored to the specific group on the day. \nGo on\, we all have the fantasy of being on the front lines of Agincourt or Bosworth! \nThe group will then lead observable demonstrations in an arena throughout the day\, which are open to all. \nTickets: 18+ \nAbout Birmingham Medieval Combat \nWe are pleased to welcome Birmingham Medieval Combat (BMC) to our walls\, to lead us in a session showcasing the battle skills of men-at-arms in the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Centuries. \nBMC is a full contact sports team competing in the sport of armoured MMA and Buhurt\, based on foot combat tournaments during the 14-15th Century\, similar to Jousts.
