SUMMARY:Castle Bromwich in Medieval England\, an Historical Walk
DESCRIPTION:‘Lost Landscapes’\, a Walking Tour of Medieval Castle Brom\nCastle Bromwich Motte and Bailey: the castle on the Collector Road \nWhy is it Castle Bromwich? A gentle meander which includes a view of the motte and bailey castle which gives Castle Bromwich its name\, the church of St. Mary and St. Margaret\, road system and other glimpses of the Middle Ages. \nLed by archaeologist Dr Mike Hodder of the University of Birmingham\, who has recently completed a detailed report on the excavations at the castle. \nTime:\n11:00 start\, lasting about an hour and a half. Meeting in the Courtyard Cafe of the Gardens from 10:30. \n14:00\, lasting about an hour and a half. Meeting in the Courtyard Cafe of the Gardens from 13:30. \nTickets:\n£6 (includes general entry)\, free for Annual Pass Holders but limited spaces available. \n \nYour ticket grants you entry to the Gardens for the whole day\, so you may come from the time the gates open at 10:30 and stay until 16:30 if you like. (But don’t miss the tour!)\nHaving had over 30 years of experience in West Midlands history and archaeology\, Mike is the perfect individual to allow us to delve into the lives of those living in and around Medieval Castle Bromwich\, well before these historic gardens were laid out. \nHis particular interest in old ‘Pimple Hill’ as it’s known locally\, stems from the fact that when he was still at school\, he joined in with the original excavation of the site in the 1970s. \nMike will take you through the medieval centuries in a talk designed to reveal the hidden landscapes of pre-Tudor Castle Bromwich\, its fascinating history and how this past interacts with our present. \nFurther particulars:\nit is suggested that this event is largely for adults. It may also interest Sixth Formers who have a particular interest in History or Archaeology.

SUMMARY:'Edwardian Sunday'
DESCRIPTION:‘An Edwardian Sunday’\nBirmingham Heritage Week\nWe’ve been pleased to champion Medieval times in Castle Bromwich across the summer\, and the history-related events don’t stop there. \nWe are once again hosting ‘An Edwardian Sunday’ in collaboration with St. Mary’s and St. Margaret’s Parish Church. In order to re-enact what a Sunday morning may have looked like in c. 1910\, we are staging an ‘Edwardian Sunday’ by processing in costume from the Hall\, where the Bridgeman family lived\, to what was their family church.  \nWhat to expect?\nThe procession will then be followed by a tremendous chorus of well-known hymns\, taking us in a tour of the English hymnal tradition right from the time of Henry VIII all the way to Lady Bradford herself in the 1930s. You can expect great triumphant songs of praise such as Lord of the Dance\, as well as more contemplative like the Coventry Carol. Be prepared to work your vocal chords! \nThere will be NO Eucharist\, but instead a focus on historic readings and hymns. \nAfter the service\, tours of the Gardens will be taking place\, starting in the Courtyard Cafe. \nPlease do come dressed up in Edwardian attire (or just a hat!).  \nCosts:\nThe Church event is entirely free\, though we strongly encourage people to donate to St. Mary’s and St. Margaret’s. \nEntry fees to the Gardens apply \n£6.60 for Adults \n£5.50 for Concessions \n£3 for 3s and over \n  \nA view of the church from c. 1886 by George Willis Pryce

SUMMARY:'Fundraising Harvest Festival'
DESCRIPTION:‘Harvest Festival’\nSunday 27th September\nWhat to expect?\nAll the stuff you would think of when it comes to a Harvest Festival\, but just in our own little ways. The day comes complete with: animal vegetables\, Morris dancing\, crafts with corn/wheat and of course\, scarecrows! \nCompetition (Get involved!) 50p per entry.\nThere will be three elements to the competition if you would like to enter any of them. They will then be voted on by visitors to the Gardens on that day. \nThese include: \n\nVegetable animals – any animal (fictional or otherwise!) made out of fruit and vegetables\, no bigger than an A4 piece of paper – think of those lovely cauliflower sheep!\nFlowers in the Most Interesting Vessel – an arrangement of flowers of any sort\, dried or otherwise\, in any vessel you choose (for instance a Wellington Boot!). The vessels shouldn’t be excessively large and need to be able to be put atop a trestle table.\nScarecrows – whether out of straw or not (old clothes and socks would do!)\, these should be anywhere from 2ft up to about 6ft\, and can be of famous people or not.\n\nClick Here to enter the competition. You can pay on the day. \nThe idea is that the competition is FUN and not something to become overly serious about. \nEntry from 10:30 until the end of the day at about 16:30. \nAt 14:00\, Beorma Morris will lead us in some border revelry\, before a final gathering and announcing of the awards. \nPrice\nAll of this is included with entry. \nAdults £6 \nConcessions £5 \nUnder 16s £3 \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \n
