DESCRIPTION:Foraging safely… Even here in the city\, Nature offers wonderful habitats and food for free. Join us and WildFoodUK for a fascinating stroll in the ‘urban countryside’. A first level course in foraging.\nCastle Bromwich Hall and Gardens represent a rare example of a 17th century Jacobean country house\, complete with its original garden setting and parkland. Situated only five miles from Birmingham City centre\, the hall is now in private ownership\, but 40 acres of historic garden and the parkland are managed by Castle Bromwich Historic Gardens Trust. The site contains a mosaic of habitats including formal gardens\, orchards\, woodland\, wetlands and grasslands making it ideal for all year round foraging! \nOur Foraging Courses begin with a short introduction to Wild Food UK\, what to expect from your day and a brief summary of the general countryside codes\, including our Foraging Code. \nHeading off at a leisurely pace\, your instructor will teach you how to safely identify the different species of edible and poisonous plants and mushrooms that you discover. This exploration will take about 2.5hrs\, during which we’ll take a break for a homemade refreshment\, such as our Hogweed & Wild Garlic Soup or Elderflower Champagne! \nThen it’s back to the meeting point for a tasty wild food meal. This will include a selection of foraged homemade treats created by your instructor\, and a dish made with what we have collected during the walk. \nAll of our food is seasonal\, so what you are served depends on what is growing at that time of year. In Spring we will be making use of the fresh wild greens and in Autumn\, the array of tasty wild mushrooms that the area has to offer. \nYou will receive a comprehensive set of Wild Food UK ‘Course Notes’ a few days after your course. DESCRIPTION:A 90-minute experience getting close up and flying  owls and  birds of prey – for under 16s\n\n\nYoung people’s interest in wildlife\, or even in Harry Potter\, just grows and grows.\nNow\, your young enthusiast has the opportunity to get close to these wonderful creatures and to learn how to hold them safely on the hand (with a glove on\, obviously!) \nOur adult Falconry and Owl sessions have a great following here in the Gardens and now Tora’s Falconry can offer small groups their own hands-on experience during the school holidays. \nWith just 12 child places per 90 minute session\, each child get an opportunity to learn about the birds\, see them fly and get a chance to fly a small owl or falcon. \nThese sessions are suitable for almost any age\, but we suggest at least 5 years or over . (NB The 90 minute sessions do have a break\, but it is still the length of two school lessons!) \n \nEach child ticket INCLUDES a place for ONE accompanying adult.\nChildren must be accompanied. \nYou can buy one additional adult ticket(maximum 2 adults per child) – click on AddOns\, after you have bought your main ticket. \nMain ticket: Child (with adult) £20 \nExtra adult : £8 \nAll tickets give you access to the Gardens for the whole day\, so take your opportunity to explore the Gardens\, follow the witches trail and explore the scary maze…

DESCRIPTION:Easter trails continue on Easter Monday .. and as an extra treat (12 ish &1.30pm) a tradtitional ‘Pace Egging’ Mummers play from our friends the Glorishears of Brummagem.\nA bit like pantomime\, ‘Mummers’ plays are gentle knock about folk plays tradtionally played at christmas\, new year and easter. \nBrummagem Mummers are thrilled to make their return to the Gardens to bring their own take on mumming\, in this short Easter themed play that is suitable for all ages.\nFree performances (about 20mins) in the Courtyard at 12 and 1.30 ish … \n\nRobin Hood and Little John battle with Fred the Fly Tipper\, who not only is dumping rubbish all over our countryside but is now trying to steal the King’s deer from Sherwood Forest.  \nJoin Brummagem Morris in their off-beat\, hysterical\, modern\, interpretation of a traditional mummers play.  \nCringe at the terrible gags.  \nMeet Dobbin the horse and Jolly Jack the sailor (what’s he doing in Sherwood?)  \nSee what wonderous cures the Doctor can pull out of his bag to resuscitate the fallen characters. \nLaugh at the terrible rhyming poetry and groan at the awful puns.  \nFun for all the family.

Family Friendly (with some loud noises) \nThis is a  much-needed fundraising event for the Gardens so your support and generosity at the entrance gate will be much appreciated.  \nNo need to  Book... DESCRIPTION:This March our Historic Gardens are teaming up with the National Trust to celebrate the start of Spring and the National Trust’s own Festival of Blossom by hosting its first ever Blossom Bash.\nBlossom season starts with blackthorn (sloes!)\, then beautiful pink fluffy cherry blossoms around the city\, before moving on to the generous blossom of pear trees\, then apples.  The highly scented Hawthorn (‘May’) and Elderflower follow later. \nThis Blossom Bash free event is a great way to start the season and brighten the experience for our eyes and nose…all welcome\, just drop in. \nSunday 22 March 2026\, 10:30am to 3:30pm\na day of family filled fun\, fresh air and FREE activities.\nThe National Trust held an family picnic event in the grounds of The Charterhouse in Coventry to celebrate the start of the 2024 Blossom project. DESCRIPTION:Foraging safely… Even here in the city\, Nature offers wonderful habitats and food for free. Join us and WildFoodUK for a fascinating stroll in the ‘urban countryside’. A first level course in foraging.\nCastle Bromwich Hall and Gardens represent a rare example of a 17th century Jacobean country house\, complete with its original garden setting and parkland. Situated only five miles from Birmingham City centre\, the hall is now in private ownership\, but 40 acres of historic garden and the parkland are managed by Castle Bromwich Historic Gardens Trust. The site contains a mosaic of habitats including formal gardens\, orchards\, woodland\, wetlands and grasslands making it ideal for all year round foraging! \nOur Foraging Courses begin with a short introduction to Wild Food UK\, what to expect from your day and a brief summary of the general countryside codes\, including our Foraging Code. \nHeading off at a leisurely pace\, your instructor will teach you how to safely identify the different species of edible and poisonous plants and mushrooms that you discover. This exploration will take about 2.5hrs\, during which we’ll take a break for a homemade refreshment\, such as our Hogweed & Wild Garlic Soup or Elderflower Champagne! \nThen it’s back to the meeting point for a tasty wild food meal. This will include a selection of foraged homemade treats created by your instructor\, and a dish made with what we have collected during the walk. \nAll of our food is seasonal\, so what you are served depends on what is growing at that time of year. In Spring we will be making use of the fresh wild greens and in Autumn\, the array of tasty wild mushrooms that the area has to offer. \nYou will receive a comprehensive set of Wild Food UK ‘Course Notes’ a few days after your course. DESCRIPTION:Bring your mum to the Gardens on Sunday 15th and celebrate mothers and nurturing nature everywhere.\nEnjoy the daffodils\, cream tea in a box\, paper flower crafts\, or a magical tree tour…. or just a quiet stroll around the wakening Garden \n\nTours (11.30  and 2pm)\nCream Teas in a Box from 11am\nPaperFlower drop in workshop 1- 3pm\n\n  \nCream Tea in a Box\, £7 available from 11am\nHomemade scone\, Cornish cream and jam\, with endless tea… All in a convenient carry box. \nIdeal for picnicking around the Gardens in amongst Nature (or can be taken in a differently civilised way at a table in the Courtyard or Melon Ground)\nA bubbly version also available (£12) \n \nPapercraft Flower Workshop  Drop in between 12 and 2pm.\nDonations welcome ( suggested around £4).  Take away your own handmade crepe and tissue paper blooms. \nDrop in\, together with mum – or take her home a beautiful surprise. \nTour of the Gardens’ special trees (max 15 people per tour. DESCRIPTION:Used to eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday? Now is your chance to race with them! \nWe’re reviving a tradition…’again’. \nOn Tuesday 17th February 2026\, we invite people to race down the Archery Lawn\, frying pan in hand and – with luck – flipping a pancake along the way.\nAll for fun and to warm up those limbs\n\nFollowing other traditional pancake races\, the course will be precisely 415 yards and involve you running with a frying pan and pancake from start line to finish.\n\n2 race categories : 1 for adults  –  1 for children\n\n\n£2 entry for each person competing\n\n\nSmall prizes for winners\, best costumes etc etc\n\n\nPlease bring along a frying pan (real or toy)\n                                         (we’ll supply the pancakes)\n\n\nGardens entry free this day

DESCRIPTION:Three magnets and one froggy puppet – ideal for kids!\n\n\nMagnets and Puppets\nSpring is springing! Join us in decorating and making three Nature-themed magnets\, and one frog puppet\, complete with moving arms and legs! \nOlder children welcomed ( ideal ages 5 and 10 ) with their adults. \nEach ticket enables you to make and decorate three magnets and make one frog puppet. \nChild Ticket £10 – includes ONE adult entry\n(Must be accompanied by an adult) \nAll materials supplied and instructions on the day will be relatively simple for you to work and create together\, or individually . \nThe ticket also includes general Gardens entry so go wander and explore our Heritage site. \nWith its Mud Kitchen\, Outoor Play Area and Hidden Wonders Trail there is so much to do! \nAll children must be accompanied by an adult. \nPlease note\, we take photographs at our events. If you would not like to be in them\, just let our photographer know when/if they come round. They will introduce themselves.
