DESCRIPTION:Foraging safely… Even here in the city\, Nature offers wonderful habitats and food for free. Join us and WildFoodUK for a fascinating stroll in the ‘urban countryside’. A first level course in foraging.\nCastle Bromwich Hall and Gardens represent a rare example of a 17th century Jacobean country house\, complete with its original garden setting and parkland. Situated only five miles from Birmingham City centre\, the hall is now in private ownership\, but 40 acres of historic garden and the parkland are managed by Castle Bromwich Historic Gardens Trust. The site contains a mosaic of habitats including formal gardens\, orchards\, woodland\, wetlands and grasslands making it ideal for all year round foraging! \nOur Foraging Courses begin with a short introduction to Wild Food UK\, what to expect from your day and a brief summary of the general countryside codes\, including our Foraging Code. \nHeading off at a leisurely pace\, your instructor will teach you how to safely identify the different species of edible and poisonous plants and mushrooms that you discover. This exploration will take about 2.5hrs\, during which we’ll take a break for a homemade refreshment\, such as our Hogweed & Wild Garlic Soup or Elderflower Champagne! \nThen it’s back to the meeting point for a tasty wild food meal. This will include a selection of foraged homemade treats created by your instructor\, and a dish made with what we have collected during the walk. \nAll of our food is seasonal\, so what you are served depends on what is growing at that time of year. In Spring we will be making use of the fresh wild greens and in Autumn\, the array of tasty wild mushrooms that the area has to offer. \nYou will receive a comprehensive set of Wild Food UK ‘Course Notes’ a few days after your course. This email will contain links and articles relating to the plants and mushrooms we discovered or discussed during the day. \nDates \n\nFriday 24th April (12-3.30pm)\nSunday 10th May (12.3.30pm)\nSaturday 11th July (10am- 1.30)\nSunday 16th Aug  (12-3.30pm)\n\nCastle Bromwich Hall and Gardens has free parking\, a courtyard cafe and toilet facilities. Get moving with a variety of tasks that will give your local green space a helping hand. \nMeet new people who share a passion for being outdoors and staying active. \nSoak up the benefits that fresh air and green space have on our mental health. \nWe meet regularly to carry out seasonal conservation tasks\, with a mixture of gentle and more strenuous activities depending on your enegry levels. \nAnd don’t worry if you have never done this before\, our rangers will show you exactly what to do and explain why the work is so important. SUMMARY:Blossom Bash -  a blooming spring celebration: free event
DESCRIPTION:This March our Historic Gardens are teaming up with the National Trust to celebrate the start of Spring and the National Trust’s own Festival of Blossom by hosting its first ever Blossom Bash.\nBlossom season starts with blackthorn (sloes!)\, then beautiful pink fluffy cherry blossoms around the city\, before moving on to the generous blossom of pear trees\, then apples.  The highly scented Hawthorn (‘May’) and Elderflower follow later. \nThis Blossom Bash free event is a great way to start the season and brighten the experience for our eyes and nose…all welcome\, just drop in. \nSunday 22 March 2026\, 10:30am to 3:30pm\na day of family filled fun\, fresh air and FREE activities.\nThe National Trust held an family picnic event in the grounds of The Charterhouse in Coventry to celebrate the start of the 2024 Blossom project. DESCRIPTION:Learn all about the art of Hapa Zome\, have a ago and take home your creation.\n\n\nHapa Zome is a fun and creative way of connecting art and nature.\nOriginally from Japan\, it involves pounding leaves\, flowers and other natural materials onto fabric and paper to create colourful and beautiful patterns.\n  \nWhat to expect- \n\nYou will be introduced to Hapa Zome with a demonstration from our instructor.\nAfter that it’s time for you to experiment\, explore which materials work better and why\,\nCreate your own Hapa Zome to take home with you.\n\n\nThis workshop is suitable for children aged 5-13 YO. All children must be accompanied by an adult.\nAll materials supplied and instructions on the day will be relatively simple for you to work and create together\, or individually . \nThe ticket also includes a general Gardens entry. \n  \nThis Workshop is funded by The National Lottery Awards for All.

DESCRIPTION:Three magnets and one froggy puppet – ideal for kids!\n\n\nMagnets and Puppets\nSpring is springing! Join us in decorating and making three Nature-themed magnets\, and one frog puppet\, complete with moving arms and legs! \nOlder children welcomed ( ideal ages 5 and 10 ) with their adults. \nEach ticket enables you to make and decorate three magnets and make one frog puppet. \nChild Ticket £10 – includes ONE adult entry\n(Must be accompanied by an adult) \nAll materials supplied and instructions on the day will be relatively simple for you to work and create together\, or individually . \nThe ticket also includes general Gardens entry so go wander and explore our Heritage site. \nWith its Mud Kitchen\, Outoor Play Area and Hidden Wonders Trail there is so much to do! \nAll children must be accompanied by an adult. \nPlease note\, we take photographs at our events. If you would not like to be in them\, just let our photographer know when/if they come round. They will introduce themselves.
