Drawing from the warm sounds of 1970s soft rock\, funk and disco\, Sarakula creates sunny\, groove-driven songs for complicated times. With his long blond hair\, retro style and self-aware sense of humour\, he embraces comparisons to the unlikely love child of The Doors’ keyboard wizard and the Gibb brothers. \nBorn in Sydney and now based in the UK\, Sarakula has travelled extensively in pursuit of inspiration\, from performing in remote Norwegian fishing villages to surviving a Caribbean carjacking. Since establishing himself across the UK and Europe\, he has released a string of acclaimed albums including Island Time (2023)\, Companionship (2020)\, Love Club (2018) and The Imposter (2015). SUMMARY:'Lost Landscapes'\, Castle Bromwich in Medieval England
DESCRIPTION:‘Lost Landscapes’\, Medieval Castle Brom\nCastle Bromwich Motte and Bailey: the castle on the Collector Road \nWhy is it Castle Bromwich? This illustrated talk by archaeologist Dr Mike Hodder of the University of Birmingham will describe the excavations that took place on the motte and bailey castle before the Collector Road was built. It will explain its setting in medieval Castle Bromwich and compare it with other castles and manor houses in the West Midlands and beyond. \n\nTime:\n11:30 start\, lasting about an hour with questions. Chairs provided. \nTickets  \n£5 (includes general entry)\, free for Annual Pass Holders but limited spaces available. \nBelow: view of excavation of the motte and bailey castle\, courtesy of Dr. Mike Hodder \n  \nYour ticket grants you entry to the Gardens for the whole day\, so you may come from the time the gates open at 10:30 and stay until 16:30 if you like!\nHaving had over 30 years of experience in West Midlands history and archaeology\, Mike is the perfect individual to allow us to delve into the lives of those living in and around Medieval Castle Bromwich\, well before these historic gardens were laid out. \nHis particular interest in old ‘Pimple Hill’ as it’s known locally\, stems from the fact that when he was still at school\, he joined in with the original \n\nexcavation of the site in the 1970s. \nMike will take us through the medieval centuries in a talk designed to reveal the hidden landscapes of pre-Tudor Castle Bromwich\, its fascinating history and how this past interacts with our present. \nFurther particulars:\nit is suggested that this event is largely for adults. It may also interest Sixth Formers who have a particular interest in History or Archaeology.

SUMMARY:History Adventures! Dancing\, Knights and Sieges...
DESCRIPTION:Knights\, Castles and Music! 8th and 9th August\n \n  \nThe weekend’s events:\nAcross both days\, joins us and expert interactive history buffs History Adventures and Medieval musicians\, Merrie Noyse for a day of hands-on history. \nSir Stephen de Blennerhayset and Lady Eleanor are ready to take you on a journey to the high life of the Middle Ages.\nThree shows across the day\, will immerse participants and spectators into the world of the Medieval Great Hall. Learn how to become a knight with sword-in-hand in Knight School\, step to the 14th century beat with our Medieval Dance show\, and learn how castles work whilst building (and destroying) them in Castle Siege. \n  \nThe Shows: morning\, lunchtime and afternoon.\nKnight School – 30 mins \nLearn about what it takes to be a Knight\, both on and off the battlefield. See if you can follow instructions as you discover how a child went through the process to become a Knight. If you perform well\, and show proficiency with a sword\, then you might be granted the greatest honour most could hope for in the Medieval world and be granted your very own Knighthood! \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nMedieval Dance – 30 mins \nKnights wouldn’t always be at battle. Sometimes they liked to throw massive feasts and banquets to impress their peers\, and what better way to impress them than by showing them how good you are on the dance floor! Learn real medieval dances and party like it’s 1369! \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nCastle Siege – 45 mins \nBuild a castle\, learning how they are constructed in the process\, what is called what\, and some of the ingenious ideas used to defend the fortresses of the Medieval world. Building the castle\, however\, is only half the fun. Once it is finished\, learn about some of the ways that you can attack a castle before besieging it with catapults. \n  \n \n  \n\n\n\n\n  \n  \n\n\nLawn Games All Day\nFor many visitors it is the games that we provide that are the highlight. Our games are all Medieval games that transport players back in time. We fill our Games Arena with many different games\, that are relevant to the period\, that visitors can play at their leisure and return as much as they want. \nOur Games Arena gives visitors something to enjoy from the moment the gates open to the end of the day. Some games are simple\, others have more intricate rules\, and this spread means that there is something for all. \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWandering Troubadours\nMerrie Noyse will add the soundtrack to the day\, wandering throughout the Gardens with their Medieval instruments\, bringing the sounds of the Middle Ages to these Baroque gardens. Won’t their music sound fabulous in the Music Room? \n \n  \nFees: entry fees apply\, £6 for adults and £5 for concessions (over 65s or full-time students)\, and under 16s are free! The Knights and Dragon Trail will be £1 for under 16s.
